Artist Statement
The world around me inspires me. Here I find interesting designs, graphic elements and patterns – the source is often magazines, advertisements, newspapers, the Internet or my own photo archive. I am constantly looking for new and old symbols and icons that may be included in a picturesque story. Signs that contain a new world of stories and hidden layers.
In the meeting with the white canvas the ideas seriously arise. I let my motifs unfold. I often have an idea in which direction I want to take the painting. But the direction changes all the time, is stopped by my own obstacles, while new opportunities are born, and then stopped again ...
Essential for my work is the desire to create a strong visual expression showing a picturesque pleasure and dynamism, which reflects my urge to tell stories. The stories are woven into each other, usually without narrative course or morale. As in life, it is up to the viewer to create meaning and coherence.
My hope is that my paintings challenge and surprises the eye, send thoughts to explore around in shapes and colors. I want my paintings to touch the beholder, make people start thinking. The worst thing is if indifference is allowed to reign.
